About the Artist:
Billy Dean, born in Quincy, Florida, began performing at age eight with his father’s band and continued playing music through high school before briefly attending college on a basketball scholarship. Choosing music instead, he toured with his own band and gained national attention as a finalist on the 1982 Wrangler Country Star Search, which inspired his move to Nashville. After working as a songwriter and backup singer, he won Best Male Vocalist on Star Search in 1988, leading to a record deal and his 1990 debut album Young Man, which produced hit singles and earned major recognition, including a Grammy nomination. Dean went on to release multiple gold-certified albums and chart-topping songs throughout the 1990s, later scoring another No. 1 as a featured artist on Kenny Rogers’ “Buy Me a Rose.” He continued recording and touring into the 2000s, earned a Florida Artist Hall of Fame induction in 2017, and remains known for his enduring impact on country music with over three decades of work and 11 albums.
